Prytanes is a of seed bugs in the Rhyparochromidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera), described by Distant in 1893. It belongs to the tribe Myodochini, a diverse group of ground-dwelling lygaeoid . The genus has been subject to recent taxonomic revision, with new distributional records documented for multiple . Prytanes is presumably closely related to the newly described genus Prytanoides from Argentina.
