Palearctic and Nearctic regions. Widely distributed across Europe, extending east to the Caucasus and northern Iran. Present in North America (Nearctic). Common in southern England and Wales, reaching northern England and central and coastal Scotland; evidence of northward range expansion. Recorded from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Vermont, USA.
