Epistrophe is a of hoverflies (Syrphidae) in the Syrphinae, tribe Syrphini. are medium-sized, often -mimicking, with dark and variable yellow abdominal markings. The genus is distributed across the Palearctic and Nearctic regions, with seven species recorded in Britain and at least three in northern Iran. are flower visitors in spring, particularly associated with trees and shrubs. Larvae are on woody plants.

Distribution

Palearctic and Nearctic regions. Widely distributed across Europe, extending east to the Caucasus and northern Iran. Present in North America (Nearctic). Common in southern England and Wales, reaching northern England and central and coastal Scotland; evidence of northward range expansion. Recorded from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Vermont, USA.
