Piezura is a small of small flies in the Fanniidae, distinguished from other fanniid genera by its . The genus contains five described with distribution primarily in the Holarctic region. Two species, P. pardalina and P. graminicola, occur in Europe. Recent taxonomic revision has clarified species concepts, redescribed all species, and provided illustrated genitalia and identification keys for both sexes.

Primarily Holarctic. Europe: Denmark, Norway, Sweden (confirmed by GBIF records); P. pardalina and P. graminicola specifically recorded from Europe. Asia: P. pardalina shanxiensis described from Shanxi Province, China; P. nigrigenus described from Japan. North America: P. nearctica described from Nearctic region.
