The genus is distinguished from related genera such as Stenoxylita by specific morphological features including emarginated and pronotal structure. of Xylita are recorded from Europe and North America, with at least two described species: X. laevigata and X. nagaii. The genus belongs to the tribe Xylitini within the Melandryinae.
