The has undergone substantial revision. In 2016, the genus was redefined and seven were organized into three species groups: the lurida group, the linearis group, and the new baicalica group. A lectotype was designated for Omalium luridum Gyllenhal, 1813. A new synonymy was established: Dropephylla linearis (Zetterstedt, 1828) = D. puella (J. Sahlberg, 1880) syn. nov.
