The subgenus was established by in 1829 and is currently treated as valid. One documented species, Ochthebius (Enicocerus) colveranus, inhabits and moss growth on spray zones of rocks in streams.

Documented from north-eastern Slovakia (rivers Laborec, Ondava, Udava, Výrava and stream Hermanovský Potok). GBIF records indicate presence in Vermont, USA.
