Melanotus dichrous

(Erichson, 1841)

Melanotus dichrous is a click beetle in the Elateridae, first described by Erichson in 1841 under the basionym Cratonychus dichrous. The species is known from the Azores archipelago in the North Atlantic, with records from five islands: Faial, Flores, Graciosa, Pico, and São Jorge. As a member of the Melanotus, it shares the characteristic click beetle including an elongated body form and the prosternal process that enables the defensive "clicking" mechanism.
