Stenotarsus is a of mycophagous beetles in the Endomychidae, commonly known as handsome fungus beetles. The genus contains more than 50 described , with 59 currently recognized. Species have been documented across the Neotropics, with substantial diversity in México, Guatemala, and Belize where 27 species have been recorded.

Taxonomic History

The was established by Perty in 1832. Recent taxonomic revisions have synonymized several : Stenotarsus circumdatus, S. discipennis, and S. tarsalis with S. globosus; S. distinguendus with S. sallaei; and S. pilatei with S. militaris. Lectotypes have been designated for multiple species to stabilize .
