Members of Gnathacmaeops can be distinguished from related Rhagiini by their reduced in the G. brachypterus, which leaves much of the exposed. G. pratensis has fully developed elytra. Nomenclatural history

The was established by Linsley & Chemsak in 1972 to accommodate previously placed in other genera. G. pratensis was originally described as Leptura pratensis by Laicharting in 1784.

Species composition

The contains only two : Gnathacmaeops pratensis (Laicharting, 1784) and Gnathacmaeops brachypterus (K. Daniel & J. Daniel, 1898). The latter is notable for its brachypterous (short-winged) condition.
