The name Phidippus tigris has been used in online contexts to refer to a spider photographed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but this identification was subsequently corrected. Expert G.B. Edwards identified that specimen as most likely a female 'Euophrys' sutrix (now recognized as belonging to a different within the Freyinae). The true Phidippus tigris Edwards, 2004 is a North American .
