Homalonychus is a of araneomorph spiders and the sole genus in the Homalonychidae. It contains two described found in arid regions of the southwestern United States and Mexico. These spiders are notable for their specialized sand-adhesion setae and self-burying , adaptations to desert environments. They are non-web-building hunters that conceal themselves under rocks, dead vegetation, or by burial.

Habitat

Arid desert environments. Found under rocks and dead vegetation.

Distribution

Southern United States and Mexico. H. theologus occurs primarily west of the Colorado River; H. selenopoides occurs primarily east of the Colorado River with isolated in Death Valley and near Mercury, Nevada.

Behavior

Does not build webs. Partially buries itself in substrate. Self-burying has been observed in H. theologus.
