Females of Cordulia aenea amurensis have been observed to select sites among emergent vegetation where male approach is difficult, suggesting a strategy to avoid additional mating attempts after initial copulation. Females rarely travel across open water in search of oviposition sites.

Reproductive behavior research

A long-term study (1970-1983) at Hôrai-numa pond in Sapporo, Hokkaido found that ovipositing female of Cordulia aenea amurensis showed high negative correlation with distance from the 'entrance' area where most arrived. Despite potentially higher larval at more distant sectors, was rarely observed there.
