Sarata is a of in the Pyralidae, Phycitinae, established by Ragonot in 1887. The genus includes such as Sarata tephrella, a pyralid moth found in Wyoming. The female of S. tephrella was described for the first time in a 2004 taxonomic note, which also documented morphological variation in both sexes.
