Documented from the Ethiopian region (Africa), Italy, and Pakistan. Ematheudes occurs in the Ethiopian region with some extending to the Palearctic and Asia. Genus Hypsotropa is distributed across Italy including Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily, and the northern and southern peninsular regions.

Hypsotropa gallohispanicella Leraut, 2019 is synonymized with H. roseostrigella Ragonot, 1901.
Known host plant record
Ematheudes rhizolineata (Bradley, 1980), transferred from Patna, is the only Ematheudes for which a plant is documented. Larvae have been reared from rhizomes of Sorghum halepense (Johnson grass) in Pakistan.
