Penestola is a of in the Crambidae, established by Heinrich Benno Möschler in 1890. The genus contains three described : Penestola bufalis, P. simplicialis, and P. stercoralis. The taxonomic status of Penestola remains unsettled; some sources treat it as a valid genus within Spilomelinae, while others regard it as a synonym of Piletocera. Members of this genus are small to medium-sized crambid moths.
