Recent taxonomic work has described new from Turkmenistan (C. irata) and Brazil (C. ypy), the latter representing the first formal record from the Neotropical region. Species-level remains active, with several synonymies proposed in recent revisions.

Recent taxonomic revisions have described Cymodusa irata sp. nov. from Turkmenistan and Cymodusa ypy sp. nov. from Brazil, significantly extending the known geographic range of the . Two synonymies have been proposed: Cymodusa longiterebra Dbar, 1985 as junior synonym of C. nigra Šedivý, 1965; and C. ancilla (Seyrig, 1927) as junior synonym of C. australis (Smits van Burgst, 1913).
Observation record
A very small Cymodusa distincta was documented during the 2024 City Nature Challenge in Leavenworth, Kansas, USA, indicating the also occurs in North America.
