Members are small to medium-sized leafhoppers with distinctive morphological features including transverse striations along the crown margin, ocelli positioned below the crown margin and distant from , short less than 1.5× length, and a narrow anteclypeus tapered beyond the gena margin. The subtribe was previously treated as the tribe Grypotini but was reclassified based on morphological characters. One genus, Pinopona, has been studied in detail and is associated with Pinus plants.

Identification

Anteclypeus narrow, tapered beyond anterior margin of gena. Metatarsomere I with platellae on plantar surface. Body coloration ranges from pale greenish-yellow to dark brown.
Habitat
High altitude mountainous regions above 1700 m elevation, including the Himalayan region, southeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Gaoligong Mountains, and intersection of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Hengduan Mountains.
Distribution
Palearctic, Oriental, and Nearctic regions. Pinopona specifically recorded from China (Hunan, Hong Kong, Yunnan), Pakistan, India, and Nepal.
