Genus Guides
1Faltalini is a tribe of leafhoppers in the Deltocephalinae, comprising 13 and 63 . The tribe is distributed throughout the New World from the southwestern United States to southern South America. A 2010 revision established the tribe's monophyly and documented a stepwise evolution of brachyptery (wing reduction) correlated with shifts from forest to open grassland. Two major clades are recognized: (Bonamus, Tenucephalus) and a larger clade containing the remaining genera including the brachypterous "Faltala group".

Identification
Members of Faltalini share six diagnostic characters of the female genitalia: phragma of male genital capsule partly developed into sclerotized plates or setose bulbous lobes (except Acrolithus); first valvula relatively straight with sculpturing separated from dorsal margin by unsculptured band; first valvula dorsal sculpturing maculose or granulose with maculae separate or slightly overlapping; first valvula with distinctly delimited sculptured area; and second valvula without dorsal teeth. The tribe exhibits exceptional morphological diversity in shape, wing length, venation, and male genitalia, making visual identification to tribe level difficult without dissection.

Habitat
occupy open or grassland ; the tribe's ancestor is hypothesized to have inhabited forested environments. The shift to open habitats is correlated with the evolution of brachyptery in multiple lineages.
Distribution
New World distribution from the southwestern United States south through Mexico, Central America, and South America to Argentina and Chile. Documented from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.
Behavior
Brachyptery (wing reduction) has evolved in a stepwise pattern within the tribe. Subbrachypterous females occur in Hecullus and Acrolithus. Completely brachypterous males and females characterize the monophyletic "Faltala group" of eight (Aequcephalus, Dietrichana, Virganana, Clorindaia, Faltala, Kramerana, Paraclorindaia, and Ackbaria).
Similar Taxa
- Other Deltocephalinae tribesFaltalini is difficult to distinguish from other deltocephaline tribes based on external alone; definitive identification requires examination of female genitalia characters, particularly first and second valvulae structure.

Taxonomic revision
The tribe was comprehensively revised in 2010, increasing known diversity from 11 and over 25 to 13 genera and 63 species. Two new genera (Dietrichana, Paraclorindaia) and 36 new species were described.
Phylogenetic relationships
Phylogenetic analysis based on 51 morphological characters resolved two strongly supported major clades: (Bonamus, Tenucephalus) and (Hecalocorica, (Hecullus, (Acrolithus, (Ackbaria, (Aequcephalus, Dietrichana, Virganana, Clorindaia, Faltala (Kramerana, Paraclorindaia)))))).
