Hypocritanus is a of hoverflies ( Syrphidae) described by Miranda in 2020. The genus is found in the Neotropical region and contains at least two described : H. fascipennis and H. lemur. As a member of the tribe Syrphini, these flies are part of a diverse group of flower-visiting insects.

Neotropical region. GBIF records also indicate presence in Vermont, USA, though this may represent misidentifications or vagrant individuals given the 's established Neotropical range.

Taxonomic history

The was erected by Miranda in 2020, making it a relatively recent addition to syrphid . The two included were previously classified elsewhere: Hypocritanus fascipennis was described by Wiedemann in 1830, and H. lemur by Osten Sacken in 1877.
