Taxonomic history
Originally described by Townes in 1945 as Tanytarsus subtendens, this was subsequently transferred to Endochironomus. The Endochironomus was established by Kieffer in 1921 and currently contains approximately 30 described species distributed across the Holarctic and Oriental regions.
