It is currently recognized as a synonym of Anaretella, another genus within the tribe Lestremiini of the Lestremiinae. The genus was established based on morphological characteristics but has since been synonymized under broader taxonomic revision. As a synonym, Cratotocha is no longer used in current taxonomic practice.
