Taxonomic History
The was erected by Pritchard in 1951 with Conarete crebra as . Several species were transferred from other genera: Conarete texana from Hormomyia (as H. texana Felt, 1913), Conarete calcuttaensis from Lestremia (as L. calcuttaensis Nayar, 1949), and Conarete indica from Lestremia (as L. indica Mani, 1934). Two Chinese species were described by Li & Bu in 2002.
