Tachinus limbatus is a rove beetle in the Staphylinidae, Tachyporinae. The occurs across eastern and central North America, from southern Canada through the eastern United States. Like other members of Tachinus, it is associated with decaying organic matter. The species was described by Frederick Ernst Melsheimer in 1844.
