Taxonomic history
Scopaeus pilicornis Baudí, 1869 was long misunderstood in the literature until a 1997 revision established its true identity and placed Scopaeus microphthalmus Epelsheim, 1888 in synonymy. The subgenus Microscopaeus has been recognized within Scopaeus.
Species groups
