Pseudolathra

Casey, 1905

Pseudolathra is a of (: ) established by Casey in 1905. The genus comprises approximately 13 in the East Palaearctic and Oriental regions, with six species described in 2012 from Thailand, India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Species are currently divided between two subgenera: Allolathra for East Palaearctic/Oriental species and Pseudolathra for West Palaearctic species, reflecting separate phylogenetic lineages. The genus has undergone recent taxonomic revision including species revalidations, synonymies, and transfers from related genera.

Identification

Members of Pseudolathra can be distinguished from related Lathrobiini by genitalic and external morphological characters detailed in -level descriptions. The 2012 revision provides a determination for the 13 East Palaearctic and Oriental species, which are assigned to three informal species groups based on shared characteristics. Specific diagnostic features vary by species and include pronotal shape, aedeagal structure, and abdominal tergite patterns.

Distribution

East Palaearctic region (including Middle Asia) and Oriental region. Documented from Thailand, southeastern India, Pakistan, northern India, and Nepal. West Palaearctic occur in the western portion of the range.

  • LathrobiumMultiple Pseudolathra were originally described in Lathrobium and later transferred; the share tribal placement in Lathrobiini but differ in genitalic and external characters.

Taxonomic History

The was revised in 2012 by Assing, who revalidated Pseudolathra pulchella (Kraatz, 1859), synonymized P. caffra javana (Cameron, 1940) with P. pulchella, and synonymized P. chujoi (Last, 1966) with P. unicolor (Kraatz, 1859). Two new combinations were established: P. nigerrima (Cameron, 1924) and P. regularis (Sharp, 1889), transferred from Lobrathium.

Subgeneric Classification

East Palaearctic and Oriental are tentatively placed in subgenus Allolathra Coiffait, 1972, while West Palaearctic species remain in the nominate subgenus Pseudolathra. This division reflects phylogenetic separation between regional lineages.
