Geodromicus plagiatus
(Fabricius, 1798)
Geodromicus plagiatus is a rove beetle (Staphylinidae: Omaliinae) first described by Fabricius in 1798. It belongs to the plagiatus group, one of several species groups within the defined by male genitalia . The species has a broad Palaearctic distribution and has been recently recorded from previously unreported regions including Albania, Cataluña (Spain), Moldova, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and extensive areas of Russia.

Identification
Member of the plagiatus group, distinguished from other Geodromicus species groups by characteristics of the male genitalia; specifically, the lacks the strongly sclerotized found in the aokii and sinuatus groups. Distinguished from in the plagiatus group (G. corsicus, G. nigrita, G. pedemontanus, G. suturalis, G. magnus, G. paramerus, G. shii) by subtle morphological differences in male genitalia and external features detailed in taxonomic keys.
Distribution
Widespread across the Palaearctic region. Documented from Europe including Spain (Cataluña), France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Balkans including Albania. Eastern distribution includes Moldova, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and extensive Russian territories: Pskov Area, Stavropol Area, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Chechen Republic, Sverdlovsk Area, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Evenkia, and Yakutia. Also recorded from the Nearctic: Canada (Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon) and USA (Alaska, Pennsylvania).
