The was established by Wilhelm Ferdinand Erichson in 1842. Cyrtusa subtestacea, originally described as Leioda subtestacea by Gyllenhal in 1813, represents the older of the two recognized . Cyrtusa grossepunctata was described much later by Daffner in 1988.
