The name "Pheletes" has been used in two different taxonomic contexts: (1) as a of click beetles (Elateridae: Coleoptera) established by Kiesenwetter in 1858, and (2) as a epithet in the crane fly genus Hovatipula (Tipulidae: Diptera), described as Hovatipula pheletes by Alexander in 1960.
