Taxonomic History

The was established by George Henry Horn in 1876 with A. griseus as the . Two additional species were added by Casey (1888) and Van Dyke (1936). The genus has been consistently placed in the tribe Peritelini, tribe of broad-nosed characterized by their short and rounded body form.
