Etymology

The name Myrmex derives from the Greek word for '' (μύρμηξ). This name was also historically used as a former name for the ant now called Pseudomyrmex, and appears in the name of the predatory fly Rhinoleucophenga myrmecophaga, whose larvae prey on ants.
