The species is broadly distributed across the Americas, occurring in North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. It is one of two recognized , with Ischyrus quadripunctatus quadripunctatus (Olivier, 1791) as the nominate form and Ischyrus quadripunctatus chiasticus Boyle, 1954 as a subordinate . Several junior synonyms have been synonymized under this species, including I. graphicus, I. subcylindricus, and I. puncticollis.
