Identification

Elongately oval body, 4–6.7 mm in length. Coloration variable: light brown, yellow, orange, or red with large black spots on , often connected along the sides. Pronotum typically bears one large central black spot, occasionally split into two. Two distinguished by markings: N. s. seriata has entirely black head; N. s. litigiosa has pale triangular marking on head. Distinguished from Coleomegilla maculata by merged (vs. separate) elytral spots and merged (vs. separate) pronotum markings.

North America; Caribbean. N. s. seriata: Atlantic and Gulf coasts from Rhode Island to southern Texas, plus Bermuda. N. s. litigiosa: American Southwest.
