The was erected by Barr in 1952, with Araeodontia marginalis designated as the type . Several species were transferred from other genera, including Araeodontia peninsularis (originally described as Enoclerus peninsularis by Schaeffer in 1904) and Araeodontia isabellae (originally Cymatodera isabellae by Wolcott in 1910).
