Taxonomic Note
The was described by LeConte in 1854. In a 2016 field observation by Eric Eaton ( Eric), a specimen tentatively identified as Dermestes fasciatus or D. marmoratus was found on coyote scat in Colorado, with subsequent confirmation that the specimen was D. fasciatus.
