Stenacidia is a of springtails in the Sminthurididae, described by C. Börner in 1906. The genus comprises four described , with records spanning Europe, Arctic and Subarctic regions, Central Australia, and the Himalayas. Members of this genus belong to the order Symphypleona, characterized by their globular body form.

Europe; Arctic and Subarctic; Central Australia; Himalayan region; Antarctic and Subantarctic islands. The shows a disjunct distribution across temperate, polar, and high-altitude regions.

Species diversity

The contains four described : Stenacidia picta (Yosii, 1966), Stenacidia stachi (Jeannenot, 1955), and Stenacidia violacea (O.M. Reuter, 1881). A fourth species is recognized but not listed in available sources.

Taxonomic placement

Stenacidia is classified in the tribe Sminthuridini within Sminthuridinae. The Sminthurididae comprises small, often brightly colored springtails with reduced mouthparts and a characteristic globular body shape.

Observation records

iNaturalist holds approximately 140 observations of this , though the majority of these may represent unidentified or broadly classified records given the difficulty of field identification to genus level in this group.
