Taxonomic history

The concept of Gammaridea as a natural group persisted from traditional classifications through the early 2000s. The 2003 revision by Lowry and Myers transferred multiple to Corophiidea alongside former Caprellidea members. The 2013 establishment of Senticaudata absorbed most freshwater families and eventually incorporated Corophiidea. The final 2017 revision placed the remaining 85 Gammaridea families (Liljeborgioidea, Lysianassoidea, Eusiroidea) into the new suborder Amphilochoidea, rendering Gammaridea obsolete.
