The species was described by Keyserling in 1881. It occurs in the United States and the Greater Antilles, representing one of the few Selenopidae species with a trans-Caribbean distribution. Members of this are known for their ability to run sideways on vertical surfaces and even ceilings, aided by their flattened and specialized leg adaptations.
