Cercidia is a of orb-weaver spiders in the Araneidae, first described by Tamerlan Thorell in 1869. The genus was originally named Cerceis by Anton Menge in 1866, but this name was preoccupied by a crustacean genus. As of December 2025, Cercidia contains three : C. prominens, C. punctigera, and C. levii. The genus is distinguished by distinctive morphological features including a spiny and an enlarged .

The name is derived from the Greek κερκίς (kerkis), meaning 'shuttle'.

Taxonomic history

In 1975, Herbert Walter Levi recognized only C. prominens as a certain member of the and expressed doubt about C. punctigera's placement. C. levii was not described until 1985.
