Lupettiana is a of anyphaenid sac spiders erected by Brazilian arachnologist ônio Brescovit in 1997. The genus currently contains nine described distributed across the Caribbean, Central America, and South America, with one species (L. mordax) ranging into the southern United States. Species were described between 1896 and 1999, with most added during a 1999 revision by Brescovit.

Identification

Members of Lupettiana can be distinguished from other Anyphaenidae by genitalic characters, particularly male and female epigyne established in Brescovit's 1999 revision. The genus is placed in the Anyphaeninae based on these structural features.

Caribbean region (Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Dominica), Central America ( Rica), and South America (Brazil, Peru). Lupettiana mordax has the broadest range, extending from the USA through Central America to Peru and Brazil.

Lupettiana linguanea Brescovit, 1997, described from Jamaica and also recorded from Guadeloupe and Dominica.

Taxonomic history

Three were transferred into Lupettiana from other during Brescovit's 1999 revision: L. mordax (formerly Anyphaena), L. parvula (formerly Aysha), and L. spinosa (formerly Aysha).
