Identification

can be distinguished from other Chordeumatida by segment counts of 28–30; most chordeumatidans have 30 segments. The Tianella is uniquely identifiable by 29 segments in adults (except T. daamsae and T. mananga, which have 28). Adult females in 29-segment Tianella have 48 leg pairs, consistent with the reduction of one segment from the typical chordeumatidan count.
