Embola powelli is a of micro- in the Heliodinidae. The species was described from Rica as part of a 2011 taxonomic review that expanded the Eucalantica, though it has since been reclassified under the genus Embola. It represents one of several newly described species from the Neotropical region that have helped reveal previously underestimated diversity in this group of primitive micro-moths.
