1Pelecinellidae is a small of chalcidoid wasps containing three : Nefoenus, Doddifoenus, and Leptofoenus. The family was formerly treated as the Leptofoeninae within Pteromalidae but is now recognized as distinct. Members are characterized by brilliant metallic coloration, typical of many small chalcidoids. Doddifoenus wallacei is the largest known chalcidoid , reaching nearly 5 cm in length including the ovipositor. The fossil record includes Leptofoenus pittfieldae from Dominican amber, described in 2009.
