The was described by Thomas J. Henry in 1999. Americodema nigrolineatum was originally described in the genus Capsus by Knight in 1923 and later transferred to Americodema. Americodema knighti was described by Kerzhner and Schuh in 1998 and subsequently placed in this genus.
