Habitat

Associated with cones of European larch (Larix decidua) in its natural distribution range; also recorded from brownfield sites and other open based on distribution records.

Distribution

Recorded from France, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. within the show particular association with the natural range of European larch in the French Alps and Italian Piedmont.

Host Associations

  • Larix decidua - pest of cones and seedsEuropean larch; damage occurs in natural range in French Alps and Italian Piedmont. L. laricicola also recorded from southern Massif Central. No Lasiomma observed in Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis) cones.

Behavior

Larvae develop within cones of European larch, causing significant damage to seeds. Attack rates are high within the natural range of the tree but artificial larch stands outside this area appear largely uncolonized, with limited exceptions.

Human Relevance

Economic pest of European larch seed production in forestry and seed orchard contexts.
