A of fly in the Lauxaniidae, Physoclypeus, originally described by Hendel in 1908 as a replacement name for Lauxania lutea Coquillett. The genus is restricted to the Neotropical region. This species has been redescribed in a 2008 taxonomic revision that included seven new species descriptions for the genus.

Taxonomic History
Originally described as Lauxania lutea Coquillett, 1902, but renamed Physoclypeus coquilletti by Hendel in 1908 because the name Lauxania lutea was preoccupied. The was redescribed by Gaimari & Silva (2008) as part of a comprehensive revision of the .
