Species diversity

The contains six described : C. abdominalis (Brown, 1897), C. kernae (Martin, 1959), C. lucyae (Martin, 1959), C. mcclayi (Martin, 1959), C. omus (Pritchard, 1942), and C. wilcoxi (Pritchard, 1942). Four species were described by Martin in 1959, suggesting a period of focused taxonomic work on this genus.

Taxonomic history

The was established by Curran in 1930. The C. abdominalis was originally described in the genus Cerotainia before being transferred to Cerotainiops.
