Brachygluta abdominalis has a problematic taxonomic history. Originally described as Bryaxis abdominalis by Aubé in 1833, the is missing, and its identity has been discussed but not fully resolved in the 2015 revision of Nearctic Brachygluta by Chandler et al. A neotype has not been designated.
