Taxonomic history

The Macrohydnobius was erected by Peck & Cook in 2009 to accommodate previously placed in other genera within the tribe Sogdini. The type species is Macrohydnobius matthewsii (Crotch, 1874), originally described under the genus Hydnobius.

Species diversity

Six are currently recognized: M. contortus, M. crestonensis, M. matthewsii, M. montanus, M. simulator, and M. tibiocalcaris. Two species (M. montanus and M. tibiocalcaris) were described simultaneously with the itself.
