Omethes is a of false soldier beetles in the Omethidae, established by J.L. LeConte in 1861. The genus contains at least two described : Omethes marginatus (LeConte, 1861) and Omethes rugiceps (Lewis, 1895). Members of this genus belong to the superfamily Elateroidea and are classified within the suborder Polyphaga. The family Omethidae is a small group of beetles formerly treated as part of Cantharidae.

Taxonomic history

Omethidae was historically treated as a of Cantharidae (soldier beetles) but is now recognized as a distinct , with Omethes placed in the subfamily Omethinae.

Species diversity

Only two are formally described: Omethes marginatus LeConte, 1861 (the type species) and Omethes rugiceps (Lewis, 1895). The appears to be rarely collected, with only 9 observations recorded on iNaturalist as of the source date.
