Mecynogea is a of orb-weaver spiders in the Araneidae, first described by Eugène Simon in 1903. The genus contains nine distributed across the Americas, from the United States to Argentina. The name derives from Greek words meaning "to lengthen" and "earth." Members of this genus are commonly known as basilica spiders.
